Historical Revision

Our attempt at retelling the story of Egyptian Modenity in Classical Liberal terms, which transcend the East/West dichotomy, deconstruct the notion of one undifferentiated national interest, and judge individual actions on the basis of Natural Right. Hence, our program on historical revision will seek to dissociate Liberalism from Imperialism, condemn tyranny regardless of historical conditions, and establish ideas, rather than subjective motives or socio-economic factors, as the major force behind the historical developments that formed the country we live in today.

Liberty 101

Liberty 101 is an extensive annual summer school for select potential recruits, on the basic concepts of Classical Liberalism and the context in which they emerged. The training materials will include our historical and economic visions and readings from Classical Liberal literature.

Ideas for Liberty

This program seeks to convey the fundamental concepts, issues and questions of Western Political Thought, ancient and modern, through fresh translations of Great Books which have shaped Western Civilization over the past 2500 years, in addition to a large collection of audio-visual material.

Confronting Anti-Semitism

Anti-Semitism is not merely a pervasive attitude in Egypt, but rather a fundamental element of the socio-political structure. While we are ethically compelled to condemn all forms anti-Semitism, the main reason why we choose to tackle this very sensitive issue is purely pragmatic. Anti-Semitism denies any possibility of a genuine transformation to Liberalism. The Egyptian people will not embrace Liberalism until it becomes clear to them that there never has been a Zionist conspiracy and that the failures of the past are to be blamed on none other than themselves and their leaders.

Sectarian Conflict Resolution

This program is designed to deal with the plight of Copts, who constitute the bulk of a Christian minority in the predominantly Sunni Muslim Egyptian society. Copts face many legal and social difficulties in contemporary Egypt, especially with the recent exponential growth in incidents of sectarian violence. While we believe that our proposals for reform are sufficient to counter all the legal problems of all religious and ethnic minorities in Egypt, social issues, in contrast, are much more complex.

Individual Identity

While the shift from childhood to adulthood is difficult everywhere, it is especially so in Egypt. With countless social pressures, inadequate education and superficial popular culture, young Egyptian men and women often find themselves helpless figuring out who they are and what they want to do. This program asks the perennial question concerning the meaning of individual existence within society, and seeks to help our members and participants find an answer suitable to each.

Philanthropy and Civic Virtue

Minimal government means maximum freedom, but also maximum responsibility. Social Liberals often say that Classical Liberalism counts too much on the goodness of human beings. This is only true if we interpret individualism as selfishness, and liberty as license. Therefore, if we are to argue for Classical Liberalism in Egypt, we must try to help our fellow countrymen take over the enormous responsibilities heretofore undertaken by government.
